Lumen Saves the Planet
With their own initiative Lumen Saves the Planet, Lumen Hotel & Events in Zwolle tries to get its staff and guests to think along and become aware of sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility. The switch to toilet paper from The Good Roll fitted well in the list of existing initiatives.
These sustainable initiatives are widely applied in the organization, which consists of a four-star hotel with 125 rooms and a multifunctional event center. Hotel Manager Myriam Huis in 't Veld explains, "We look very consciously at what impact the choices we make have on an ecological, social and economic level. In the past, for example, we switched from loose toiletries to the sustainable refill products from Rituals. Still the luxurious look and experience that guests can expect from us, but in a more sustainable package."
Quality and sustainability
That quality and sustainability can go perfectly well together is also proven by The Good Roll's toilet rolls. "Fair is fair; we don't want to have sandpaper hanging in our hotel rooms. Therefore, we naturally requested a sample to see the quality. The sustainable story combined with the easy ordering method, made us convinced pretty quickly that The Good Roll was the alternative we were looking for," Myriam said.

In partnership with Made Blue, Lumen has been tapping sustainable and local water for several years, which accounts for 1,000 times more clean drinking water in developing countries. "When it comes to sustainability, we want to keep constantly adding water to the wine," said director Chris Lindeboom. "That is why we are now also investigating whether the concept of The Good Wine could catch on with our target group." For every bottle sold, 750 liters of clean drinking water is donated to communities in Africa. So who knows, maybe this great new partnership with Lumen will soon be expanded!
